SHI Group Receives a Bronze Rating from EcoVadis, an International Sustainability Rating Provider

Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Ltd. (Head Office: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director, President, and CEO: Shinji Shimomura) received a “Bronze Rating” on a consolidated group basis in 2024 Sustainability Assessments conducted by EcoVadis (headquarters: France), an international ratings provider. EcoVadis assesses the sustainability of more than 120,000 companies in 175 countries worldwide in four areas: Environment, Labor & Human Rights, Ethics, and Sustainable Procurement. EcoVadis awards a Bronze Rating to companies falling within the top 35% of all the companies it assesses. The SHI Group earned this rating with a score in the top 28%.

In January 2024, we established a new Purpose statement articulating the SHI Group’s significance of existence: “Enhance society and those within it with compassion through our ownership and vision.” We are promoting sustainability management from a multi-stakeholder perspective focused on enhancing both social and corporate value to ensure our adherence to this statement.

We will continue to strengthen the ESG initiatives our stakeholders expect of us. Such initiatives include reducing CO2 emissions throughout the entire value chain, addressing human rights risks, and giving our full attention to corporate ethics. And in doing so, we intend to grow as a company that "enhances society and those within it with compassion.”
