FTSE Blossom Japan Sector Relative Index
We are selected as a constituent of " FTSE Blossom Japan Sector Relative Index" . (As of April 2022).
This Index tracks the relative performance of Japanese companies exhibiting outstanding environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance across each sector. In addition, the index only includes companies recognized for their improvement initiatives as assessed by their TPI (Transition Pathway Initiative) management quality score. This score weighting applies to companies with particularly high greenhouse gas emissions to further promote the transition to a low-carbon economy.
S&P/JPX Carbon Efficient Index
We are selected as a constituent of "S&P/JPX Carbon Efficient Index." (As of February 2021)
This index is the green stock index that was jointly developed by the Japan Exchange Group and S&P Dow Jones Indices and has been adopted by the Government Pension Investment Fund (GRIF) since 2018.
This index covers the stocks constituting TOPIX and adjusts constituent weight based on disclosure of environmental information and the levels of carbon efficiency (carbon emissions per unit of revenue).
The Sumitomo Heavy Industries Group received a Bronze rating from EcoVadis, the international sustainability rating agency headquartered in France. EcoVadis rates the sustainability of over 75,000 supplier companies across 160 countries around the world based on four criteria: environment, labor and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement. Companies are rated Bronze when they fulfill certain criteria, one of which is scoring in the top 50% of the industry. We have obtained the Bronze rating with a score in the top 40% of the general-purpose machinery manufacturing sector.
SOMPO Sustainability Index
We are selected as a constituent of the "SOMPO Sustainability Index" administered by SOMPO Asset Management. (As of February 10, 2021)
This index is composed of companies that have earned higher than standard scores from the ESG comprehensive scoring based on the environmental (E) survey into companies conducted by SOMPO Risk Management, and the society (S) and governance (G) survey into companies conducted by Integrex.
We have earned the evaluations shown in the table below based on our responses to the CDP's questionnaire conducted in 2021.
CDP is a UK-based, transnational non-governmental organization that gathers information on environmental initiatives of companies and cities and publishes results of analysis of such information. This is the world's largest survey related to the environment, and eight-grade scoring (A, A-, B, B-, C, C-, D, and D-) is assigned based on responses of companies to the annual questionnaire. Its total assets under management amounts to US$106 trillion with support from 515 transborder institutional investors.
In 2021, over 13,000 companies gave their responses to the CDP program.
"Platinum Kurumin", a certification mark of the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare under the Act on Advancement of Measures to Support Raising Next-Generation Children
In October 2020, we received "Platinum Kurumin" accreditation from the Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare.
Kurumin is the program to accredit companies that commit themselves to providing support for balancing work and childcare, which is administered by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare under the Act on Advancement of Measures to Support Raising Next-Generation Children.
Out of the companies that have received Kurumin accreditation, those that commit themselves to providing support for balancing work and childcare at a higher level are certified as "Platinum Kurumin."
Nikkei SDGs Management Survey 2020
The Sumitomo Heavy Industries Group received a 3.5-star rating in the Nikkei SDGs Management Survey 2020, which rates the actions to address the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Nikkei SDGs Management Survey is comprised of questions on four categories including "SDGs strategy / economic value," "social value," "environmental value" and "governance", and assesses companies with 17 performance index developed from questionnaires for companies and public data.
The 4th Nikkei Smart Work Management Survey
We received three stars in the 4th Nikkei Smart Work Management Survey conducted by Nikkei Inc.
This survey, which has been conducted by Nikkei Inc. since 2017, assesses companies on a scale of five starts, with a definition of initiatives to maximize organizational performance through three elements consisting of "realization of diverse and flexible working style", "systems that will help create new businesses", and "powers to develop markets" as "Smart Work Management," also taking corporate governance and other management bases into consideration. This survey covers nationwide listed companies, as well as leading non-listed companies, and provides a comprehensive assessment by using responses of companies to questionnaires about human recourses utilization capability, innovative power, and market development strengths in combination with other external data.
2021 Health & Productivity Management Outstanding Organization
On March 4, 2021, we were certified as a "2021 Health & Productivity Management Outstanding Organization (Large Enterprise Category)" selected jointly by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and Nippon Kenko Kaigi (Japan Health Council).
Health and Productivity Management Organization is designed to recognize enterprises engaging in especially excellent health and productivity management under efforts based on local health issues, and initiatives for health enhancement promoted by NIPPON KENKO KAIGI.
Toyo Keizai CSR Ranking
The Sumitomo Heavy Industries Group ranked 144th of 1,614 companies in 2021 CSR Ranking published by TOYO KEIZAI INC. This ranking identifies reliable companies in terms of adequacy of CSR initiatives (human resources and utilization, environment, corporate governance, social responsibility) and financial performance.
