SHI Delivers a 10MW-Class Poultry Litter-Fired Power Plant to Miyazaki Biomass Recycle
August 06, 2026
The joint venture (hereinafter referred to as “JV”) that Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Ltd. (Head Office: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director, President and CEO: Toshiro Watanabe; hereinafter referred to as “SHI”) formed with Nishinippon Plant Engineering and Construction Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Fukuoka-shi, Fukuoka; Representative Director, President and CEO: Naoyuki Toyoshima) delivered the 10MW-class poultry litter-fired power plant (hereinafter referred to as “the Facility”) to Miyazaki Biomass Recycle Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Kawaminami-cho, Koyu-gun, Miyazaki; Representative Director, President and CEO: Kotobuki Yamashita).

SHI delivered Japan's first and largest poultry litter-fired power plant to Miyazaki Biomass Recycle Co., Ltd. in 2005. This No. 1 unit was subsequently lauded for its record of performance, leading to SHI receiving an order for the Facility, which constitutes the No. 2 unit.
SHI oversaw the EPC (*1) for the JV. Following design, procurement, construction, and commissioning, commercial operation of the Facility recently commenced according to plan.
Similar to the No. 1 unit, the boiler of the Facility employs a grate stoker boiler (*3) supplied by Wood (*2).
The Facility generates power using poultry litter supplied by poultry farmers and broiler companies based in Miyazaki Prefecture to provide a stable supply of electricity while also using the bottom ash generated in the power generating process as raw material for fertilizer. In doing so, it is expected to reducing environmental impact as well as contribute to the realization of resource recycling in the poultry industry.
Since the No. 1 unit entered commercial operation, SHI has assisted with the stable operation of the power plant for over two decades.
Going forward, it will assist with the long-term stable operation of the Facility through after-sales service and maintenance and continue to contribute to value improvement for customer businesses and the realization of a decarbonized society.
