Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Ltd. (Head office: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Toshiro Watanabe; hereinafter referred to as “SHI”) announces that the FAWT Consortium, comprising Electric Power Development Co., Ltd., Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings, Inc., Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc., Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd., SHI, and Albatross Technology Inc., has installed an experimental low-cost next-generation floating wind turbine.
The concept aims to make a fully domestic supply chain of offshore wind possible. The demonstration is in a bay of Iki City, Nagasaki Prefecture, and starts in July 2026.
This project is being conducted jointly with Sumitomo Heavy Industries Marine & Engineering Co., Ltd., a group company of SHI.
