Changing the Trade Name of Two SHI Group Companies to Strengthen the Semiconductor Business

Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Ltd. (Head Office: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director, President, and CEO: Shinji Shimomura; hereinafter “SHI”) will change the trade names of the following two companies effective January 1, 2026, to strengthen the semiconductor business and unify the global brand.
In SHI's Medium-Term Management Plan 2026, the semiconductor field is listed as one of the priority investment areas that drives growth for the SHI Group. In January 2025, SHI integrated its laser annealing equipment business with the business of Sumitomo Heavy Industries Ion Technology Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director and President: Mitsukuni Tsukihara; hereinafter “SMIT”), enabling SMIT to handle both laser annealing equipment and ion implanters. SHI also made the European laser annealing equipment manufacturer, LASSE (France), a wholly owned subsidiary.
The SHI Group will strive to maximize customer value by accelerating technical innovation and global expansion in the semiconductor field.

New trade name (Japanese name) 住友重機械マテリアルソリューションズ株式会社
(English name) Sumitomo Heavy Industries Material Solutions Co., Ltd.
Background and purpose Since laser annealing and ion implantation in semiconductor manufacturing are closely related, both businesses were integrated in January 2025 to strengthen business efficiency and proposition capability. This has helped establish a system that provides customers with comprehensive solutions. The company's new name is indicative of its problem-solving role in the materials engineering area, aiming to strengthen competitiveness in the global market.

New trade name Sumitomo (SHI) Material Solutions Europe SASU
Background and purpose LASSE became an SHI subsidiary in January 2025. The company has a strong technological affinity with SHI's semiconductor business and is currently promoting collaborative development and cross-selling strategies. This name change will enhance global brand cohesion and further increase presence in the European market.
