On August 21, Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Ltd. exhibited at the event titled “Cancer Treatment Led by Osaka-Kansai — A Future Society Where Life Shines, Pioneered by BNCT”, hosted by Osaka Prefecture at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan. The company set up a booth in front of the Osaka Healthcare Pavilion.

In collaboration with Osaka Prefecture, BNCT Review Conference and STELLA PHARMA CORPORATION, the event aimed to promote BNCT* (Boron Neutron Capture Therapy), an advanced cancer treatment technology. The booth featured displays, large-screen video presentations, and expert-led explanations of BNCT.
Approximately 80 students from Osaka High School participated, having studied radiation and BNCT in advance. They created sketchbooks summarizing their learnings and enthusiastically explained the content to visitors using quizzes and illustrations. Attendees listened attentively to the students’ presentations, impressed by their creativity and dedication.

Sumitomo Heavy Industries showcased a model of its BNCT system along with informational panels about its accelerator-based BNCT technology, including its cyclotron. The company introduced both its products and the BNCT treatment method. Some visitors had personal experiences with head and neck cancer, or had family members affected by cancer. We explained how BNCT could serve as a potential treatment option in cases of cancer recurrence.

Sumitomo Heavy Industries remains committed to promoting the wider adoption of BNCT and expanding its application to more types of cancer.
