Urban shipyard in Tokyo Bay
The Yokosuka Shipyard has one of the largest dock in Tokyo Bay. It is easily accessible by public transportation.
The majority of employees work in the shipyard and value chain of shipbuilding is concentrated in the yards.
Taking advantage of this feature, we are trying to increase the added value of our products by gathering material and moral support from Japan and overseas.
Double-opening dry dock
Our dock is so-called dry dock. The dock is usually dry for ship construction and repair. When the ship is launching and/or docking, water is filling into the dock and then drained when the work is completed to build or repair the next ship.
There are three gates in the dock: the north and south gates facing the sea, and the intermediate gate segregate the dock north side and south side.
The intermediate gate allow the construction and repair of ships with different launching and docking timing in north side and south side of dock to be carried out at the same time, contributing to more efficient construction, improved quality, and greater flexibility in delivery.
In addition, mooring facilities are available at the north and south dock gates and the shipyard's cranes can be utilized for receiving of large equipment and shipping of large structures.
Special Coating Plant
The shipbuilding industry is meeting more strict quality standards in accordance with the demands of the shipping industry and society.
In 2008, the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) Convention was inforced to apply new coating standards for ballast tanks including coating preparation and installation procedures.
In order to meet these standards, we have constructed 10 large special coating plants in two phases. We use these plants appropriately for surface preparation and painting work to ensure high quality painting work.
