Flow Simulation of Polymer Melts for Micro-scale Transcription
Nowadays, the micro-scale patterns formed by injection molding become prevalent, and, as a result, the flow simulation has been playing important role of prediction for the high qualities of transcription. Finer transcriptions require more cautious molding conditions, because of the insufficient transcription due to the formation of solidification layers on the melt surface. We have applied the flow simulations based on the CIP method for the micro-scale transcription. The effects of mold temperature and polymer velocity on the cooling of the melt surfaces and growth of the solidification layers, and, as a result, the filling up into small concaves were examined. The results of simulations which indicate high mold temperature and fast injection velocity are more desirable, coincide with the known facts in the field of production. In this paper, the results of the flow simulation and also the features of CIP method are described.
