Optimization of Jet Pump Sumi Jetter
The jet pump "Sumi Jetter" described in this report is a new model that serves as the core of grit chamber facilities for sewers. The previous Sumi Jetter model was developed in order to increase efficiency, but it was disadvantageous in that a large amount of pressurized water was required to lift sand. In developing the new model, Sumitomo Heavy Industries Environment Co.,Ltd. (SHI|EV) aimed at reducing the amount of pressurized water in order to solve this problem. After analyzing the Sumi Jetter components, SHI|EV focused attention on the shape of the nozzle, and investigated how it affected the performance of the pump. To optimize the nozzle shape, the simulation technique was utilized to examine various alternatives and improvements. As a result, SHI|EV have been able to optimize the inner angle, length and diameter of the nozzle. Based on the simulation, a new nozzle was produced, that reduced the consumption of pressurized water in a demonstration facility.
