High-brightness X-ray generator

Recent advances in a laser and an electron beam technology enabled to develop a next-generation high-brightness X-ray source based on a laser-Compton scattering. The laser-Compton X-ray source is compact and energy-tunable, and can generate a high-brightness hard X-ray which is in the range of third generation synchrotron sources. We have developed a high-brightness source of 34keV X-ray which is emitted by collision between a tightly focused electron beam and a high peak-power femtosecond laser pulse. We have also developed a highly precise timing synchronization system between the electron beam and the laser pulse for the stable X-ray generation. We are considering the improvement in the X-ray source for practical applications such as protein crystallography and medical diagnostic imaging.
