The bucket elevator type continuous ship unloader tends to be operated at an overload because of its high unloading capacity, and then to occur unexpected mechanical trouble. Its advanced and sophisticated control systems may also make it difficult to locate the cause of trouble. Thus, it has become more important to maintain the stable operations of the bucket elevator type continuous unloader. To keep stable operations, Sumitomo Heavy Industries Engineering & Services Co.,Ltd. has developed monitoring systems of fatigue life and bearing vibration to predict problems that require maintenance work. In addition to the monitoring systems, the digging speed control of the bucket elevator is also incorporated into the system to reduce the load acting on the unloader structure. This paper presents the preventive maintenance system for the bucket elevator type continuous unloader.
