The importance of small-scale distribution-type power
supplies is being reaffirmed from the perspective of the
increased openness of the electricity market in recent
years and the tendency toward peak saving. Shin Nippon
Machinery Co., Ltd. (SNM) has developed medium-tosmall
axial-flow exhaust steam turbines targeted at users
in this market. Conventional turbines exhausted air upward
or downward. By adopting axial-flow exhaust, SNM significantly
reduced exhaust pipes, decreased the maintenance
space area and facilitated maintenance. Since
the exhaust loss was reduced, the mechanical efficiency
was increased. This paper reports the background of
how the axial-flow exhaust steam turbine was developed
as well as the development concept. |
