Our company delivered the innovative Aframax type tanker "TEMPERA" to Fortum Oil and Gas Oy, a Finnish energy group. The vessel is the first commercial tanker in the world utilizing the Double Acting Tanker (DAT) concept, which was developed by Kvaerner Masa-Yards in Helsinki, Finland. An electric-driven propulsion unit with the motor enclosed in its pod was installed at the stern of the vessel. Since the unit is rotatable 360 degrees, the vessel is navigated to the direction of the stern in frozen seas, instead of the direction of the bow in ice-free seas. This provides excellent maneuvering performance in both frozen and ice-free seas.
