SUMITOMO HEAVY INDUSTRIES TECHNICAL REVIEW
Hyponic Drive(R) NEO Series
Tetsushi ISOZAKI

In January 2001, our company began selling the new model geared-motor, the NEO series, which is a full model change of the hollow shaft-type Hyponic DriveR introduced in 1991.
The NEO series has the following features:
(1) Light weight and compact design
A maximum mass reduction of about 30% has been achieved by redesigning appropriate casing sizes and the number of stages for individual output torque.
(2) Global product availability
Storing motors and reduction gears separately has reduced the product inventory. A maximum 35% reduction is possible at an overseas depot. This also provides more flexibility in service selection by enabling a combination of selected reduction gears with the motor.
This paper reports the design concept of the Hyponic DriveR NEO series and its features.
