SUMITOMO HEAVY INDUSTRIES TECHNICAL REVIEW
Controller for Injection Molding Machines
Susumu MORIWAKI

The controller of an injection-molding machine generally consists of two modules: the human-machine interface (HMI) for operating the machine, and the sequence control (SEQ) for controlling the movements of the machine.
The HIM demands networking, managing a large volume of data, integrating peripherals, and accommodating various languages. The SEQ also demands advanced levels of high operational cycle, high precision and high responsiveness. In addition, the ease of machine conversion to a specific purpose is an important factor in meeting the requirements of individual customers quickly at low cost.
We have developed the "N8 Controller," which has adopted Windows CE to materialize high performance HMI and SEQ, and has been installed on the SE-D series of full-electric injection molding machines.

The features of the N8 Controller are:
1) excellent waveform analysis and quality control by the collection of a large volume of data and their analysis,
2) supporting functions with the utilization of operability provided by universal Windows, and
3) compatibility with local area networks.
