RTGCs* used at Container Terminals are powered by a large engine-generator, consumes a large volume of fuel, emits a tremendous amount of greenhouse gasses and black smoke, which must all be minimized.
SUMITOMO has met this challenge by developing Hybrid Techlonogy (Sybrid System), which will collect the regenerative current generated during hoisting down, and storing it in a battery bank and to re-use the energt to assist the hoist motor during hoisting up. By installing the Sybrid System, the original engine-generator can be replaced by one that is only 1/3 in size.
Fuel consumption can be reduced by an average of 50-60% during operation and this will dramatically reduce greenhouse gasses.
