Sumitomo Heavy Industries Himatex Co., Ltd. was founded in 1882. In the midst of the industrial revolution that helped modernize Japan, our business started forging tools and machine parts for Sumitomo Besshi Copper Mine. Our company developed alongside with Sumitomo Besshi Copper Mine engaged in copper refining throughout the Meiji, Taisho and Showa Eras. From the postwar reconstruction period to high growth and development era we played an important role in supporting Japanese industries with superior technology and overwhelming mass-production power. Together with the change of times we worked hard to diversify our business, and in 1980 we incorporated Sumitomo Heavy Industries Foundry & Forging Co., Ltd. as an independent company whose main lines of business were production of castings and forgings. Furthermore in the year 2000 we established Shin Nippon Chain & Machinery Co., Ltd. and become Japanfs sole manufacturer of all types of anchor chains. A year later in 2001, we changed the company name to Sumitomo Heavy Industries Himatex Co., Ltd. and established our current Himatex style of business. Since our foundation in the Meiji Era we have gone through many turning points and overcome lots of hardship and have tided over the changes of the times. We believe that our confidence lies in having cultivated a new era in iron related business with our steady attitude toward challenging maintained. Utilizing our experience and success over the long years, we would like to contribute to a brighter world future through meeting the trends of the times and societyfs needs
The autographs by Mr. Washio:  gLessons from the Pasth
Kageji Washio joined Sumitomo in 1907. He immediately started working at the Besshi Mine Office, and in 1926 he became its chief manager. In 1927, he became the executive director of Sumitomo Besshi Mining Co., Ltd., and in 1931, he took office as the managing director of Sumitomo Limited Partnership Corporation. Mr. Washio aimed at creating a society that could co-exist and prosper together with the regional community, and he had totally committed himself to the construction of Showa-dori Avenue as a main street, and the design and construction of the very large Niihama Port, which laid the foundation for industrial development in Niihama city,Ehime. In addition, during the time he was in office as chief manager at the Besshi Mine Office, he founded the Jikyo Private School in his attempt to support social education by providing a facility for education and cultivation to miners. The autograph by Mr. Washio is displayed at the head office of Sumitomo Heavy Industries where Mr. Washio had been deeply involved.
