SHI Secures Order for a High-Efficiency Dedicated Biomass Combustion Power Plant

April 03, 2019

Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Ltd. announced that it has secured an order for its biomass power plant (project location of Anan, Tokushima) from Oji Green Energy Tokushima Co., Ltd., a power generation company that was jointly established by Oji Green Resources Co., Ltd. and ENEX Electric Power Co., Ltd.

The Plant will utilize wood chips for its main fuel source and is designed to be a highly efficient biomass-fueled power plant that utilizes a reheating system (*1). It will play a part in promoting renewable energy.

The plant utilizes the SHI Group’s Circulating Fluidized Bed (CFB) boiler which has been installed at over 490 units globally (*2). The Company’s CFB boilers utilize the wide range of fuels, and boast a dominant share of the highly efficient biomass-fueled power generation market. This experience has resulted in securing the order for this power plant.

SHI looks to provide highly reliable power plants that utilize biomass fuels—effective in preventing global warming—and low-grade fuels in an effort to effectively utilize resources. Through these initiatives, the company will contribute to the stable supply of electric power and the realization of a low-carbon society.

[Power Plant Outline]
Boiler Type: Circulating Fluidized Bed (CFB) boiler (with a reheating system)
Gross Output: Approx.75,000 kW
Fuel Type: Wood chips and others
Power Generation Method: Steam Turbine
Scheduled Commercial Operation Date: September 2022

(*1) Reheating System: In this system, the steam that expands inside a steam turbine is re-sent into the boiler. By re-heating and re-sending the surplus steam into the steam turbine, high-efficiency power generation is achieved.

(*2) The SHI Group: Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Ltd. and its subsidiary Sumitomo SHI FW (SFW).
The values include references of the SHI Group and licensees of SFW for CFB technology.
