Signing of Supply Contract for CFB boiler for Coal Fired Power Plant Facilities to Tanjung Power Indonesia

June 03, 2015

Sumitomo Heavy Industries Ltd., (SHI) (headquarters: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo; President: Shunsuke Betsukawa) has signed a Supply Contract, dated May 15, 2015 with Hyundai Engineering Co., Ltd., (HEC) for two CFB (Circulating Fluidized Bed) boiler units for a plant of Tanjung Power Indonesia (TPI), an IPP (Independent Power Producer) sponsored by PT. Adaro, a major mining company in Indonesia, and Korea East-West Power Co., Ltd..
HEC will act as the EPC contractor for TPI for this plant with SHI the supplier of the CFB boilers*, a core part of the facility.

SHI’s CFB technology can effectively and efficiently combust previously under-utilized low grade coals. Effective use of such fuel can be realized by a mine-mouth power plant.

This power plant is located in Tanjung, South Kalimantan, Indonesia, and would meet the demands for electricity throughout Kalimantan Island, which currently suffers from frequent electricity shortages.

SHI is increasing sales of CFB boiler which can use inexpensive low grade coals and biomass fuels effectively, for power plant facilities and cogeneration facilities in the Asian market, especially in the Southeast Asia region.

Facility Summary

- Contract Signed: May 2015
- Commercial Operation Date: July 2018
- Capacity: Steam generation capacity of 400t/h x 2 units

*CFB boiler: The facility in which air is blown from the bottom part of the boiler and fuels are mixed evenly. This allows for the combustion of a wide range of fuels with high efficiency.
